New work – coming soon…

March 15, 2012

It’s been a busy few months!  I’ve been working on many new images, including a new botanical series, plus have been going back to one of the oldest printing processes in photography – the platinum print – in a collaboration with one of the UK’s foremost practitioners of this technique.  More on this next time.

For the moment, here’s an example of the new work, with many more to follow soon…

They do great coffee and French cuisine.  Well worth a visit if you’re in the Sudbury area!

New image – “Martello I”

July 15, 2011

Taken yesterday on the Suffolk coast, here in eastern England, in strong winds and driving rain.  Only 12 degrees C.  October in July!  Not the best conditions and especially tricky trying to click the stopwatch and the cable release simultaneously and also hold a blowing-around, turning-inside-out umbrella.  I managed to get soaked and my leggings muddy, but at least the gear stayed pretty dry.  I can always put the waterproofed clothing in the washing machine.  Can’t do that with a Nikon..!

Fine Art Photography Workshop, Long Melford, Suffolk, UK – 13th July 2011

July 4, 2011

As part of the British Institute of Professional Photography’s training events series for 2011, I’ll be holding a fine-art photography workshop in the historic town of Long Melford, in Suffolk, eastern England, on Wednesday 13th July 2011, from 2pm.

During the programme, I’ll be discussing the elements of fine-art photography and the creative methods that can be employed.  By using a selection of my images, we’ll look at the behind-the-scenes process involved, including location choices, image composition, photographic capture, plus the challenges of marketing and selling the finished work.

The workshop also includes the opportunity for the participants to practice composition and technique.

Both BIPP members and non-members are welcome and for further information, please visit the events website at Fine Art Workshop.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email me or the BIPP.

Hope to see you soon,

Paul

Interview in BIPP “The Photographer” Magazine

March 5, 2011

The British Institute of Professional Photography has just published an interview I recently had with Jonathan Briggs, the editor of the BIPP’s “The Photographer” magazine, on the challenges of fine art photography and how modern technology can be used to help the process of creating the images.

The 8-page article is illustrated with a range my photographs, including some from recent trips to the UK’s Lake District and western Scotland and also floral and animal images.

The interview can be read by clicking on the JPEG image below, which will open a new browser window.  Please then click on the open image to enlarge it to full size.

Many thanks to Jonathan Briggs and the BIPP for the great article.

EUROPEAN FINE ART PHOTOGRAPH OF THE YEAR AWARD 2010 RESULTS

February 10, 2011

I’m very pleased to announce some terrific news.  The results of the highly competitive European Fine Art Photograph of the Year Award 2010 have been released and I have won Third Place!

The competition is run by the Federation of European Photographers (FEP) across 20 countries and received nearly 300 images from members of 23 professional associations.  The photographs were shortlisted to 15 finalists a couple of weeks ago.

My win is for the “Sentinel” photograph, a zig-zag sea defence groyne, taken in North Norfolk here in the UK.

I would very much like to thank the FEP and the judges for awarding my photograph this prestigious prize.
