INTERVIEW IN UK’S EAST ANGLIAN DAILY TIMES

January 30, 2011

The East Anglian Daily Times, here in the UK, have run a three-page profile in their weekend supplement on my work, background and recent awards.

We talked about how I gained an interest in photography all those years ago, ideas behind the photographs, some of the challenges encountered and other topics.  The article featured many images, including those from the Behind The Eyes series and seascapes.

Very many thanks to Arts Editor Andrew Clarke and the EADT for putting together a great article!

Just under 300 images were submitted and the final results will be announced around 6th February.

Photos from Weston Gallery exhibition

NEW YEAR:NEW VISIONS exhibition at the Weston Gallery, Carmel, CA

January 5, 2011

The Weston Gallery in Carmel, California, will be hosting a new exhibition entitled “New Year:New Visions” between Saturday 8th January and Sunday 27th February 2011, and I will be one of the five contemporary artists featured.

My large, 15 x 15-inch prints chosen for inclusion in the show, printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308gsm fine-art paper, have come from the “Behind The Eyes” series: Lion’s Stare (Variation II), Portrait of an Elephant (Variation II) and Regard.  All are exhibited in 24 x 24-inch frames, with snow-white conservation board double mount bookmounts.

To give a flavour of the exhibition, here is the introduction from Weston Gallery’s website:

A quite calm envelops the viewer upon seeing this collaboration of newly appointed works at the Weston Gallery.
There exists a theme between the artists of bucolic wonder, introspection, and peace.
The featured artists, while new to the Weston Gallery are not new to the art of making fine art photography.
Their works are included in both national and international collections and they have won many acclaimed grants and awards.
We invite you to visit our website for complete biographies, press coverage and to view photographic works.

The New Year:New Visions website is at: http://www.westongallery.com/exhibitions1.htm and the gallery is located at Sixth Avenue, between Dolores and Lincoln in Carmel, California.

Drop by if you’re in the Carmel area!

NEW WORK – FLORAL STUDIES

January 3, 2011

Starting a couple of weeks ago, I’ve been working on new floral studies to add to the tulip images produced during 2010, which, amongst others, include lilies, roses, thistles and freesias.  Being a particularly cold winter, it’s quite a good time of year to be working on indoor photographs.

Watch this space for news on how the project’s going and when the new series will be released.

To whet your appetite, here’s one of the studies of a beautiful large lily I’ve been photographing, the scent of which has been gently filling the house, giving a hint of spring…
