After many months of working in the studio, I’m pleased to announce a new body of work today, featuring colour floral portraits. This new series is being launched through my new website, which also goes live today. It’s been a busy year!
In this digitally connected world, where a wide range of platforms are used to access the internet – from desktop PCs to tablets computers to mobile phones – I considered it to be very important that using my website and viewing the work be a user-friendly, content-rich experience, but still making sure that the emphasis is on the work.
I felt that after working on the more sombre black and white series Petalum, it was time to look at producing a series which could be seen as being the opposite in style and tone – light, airy and colourful. Considering that so much of my previous work has been in monochrome, I have to say that working in colour has been an enjoyable experience, but at the same time I’ve had to work at ensuring that colour didn’t take centre stage; I considered it to be an equal component of each image and that it shouldn’t overwhelm the other elements that comprised each study.
It’s my intention that this is the start of an ongoing series of colour floral studies, so more to come!
The blog you’re currently viewing has now been replaced by the News page on the new website, so this post will be the last entry on this blog. If you pay a visit to the new site and subscribe – via RSS, Facebook, Twitter and other social media – you’ll be the first to receive updates on my new work, exhibitions and all the other news.
Thanks for your interest and looking forward to seeing you over at the new website.

Over here in the UK, the March 2013 edition of Photography Monthly magazine has a five-page interview feature on “Petalum“, illustrated with many images from the from the thirty-print botanical series. In addition to the flowers, the article also includes a number of my personal favourite images from recent years.
Available, as they say, from all good UK bookshops and newsagents.

My new botanical series – “Petalum” – is currently on show until 4th March 2013 at the new “Fine & Contemporary” Gallery in Clare, Suffolk, UK.
The thirty monochrome prints feature a wide range of flowers and plants: from the beautifully sculpted Aqua Rose, to the crêpe paper petals of a field poppy, to the more exotic-looking Black Parrot tulip.
The series’ style hints at a more classical period in photography, but with a contemporary feel: capturing the fine detail inherent in each flower, but also the subtleties of light, shade, texture and tone.
The exhibition details:
1 February – 4 March 2013
Fine & Contemporary Gallery, Well Lane, Clare, Suffolk, UK CO10 8NH
Mon, Thurs, Fri, Sat 10.00am-5.00pm; Sunday 1.00pm – 5.00pm (Closed on Tuesday and Wednesday)

I’ve just completed two new botanical studies as part of the “Petalum” series – in full glorious colour! The field poppy and yellow iris flowers featured in black & white in the series have so much intrinsic texture and natural beauty that I felt that they should also been seen in colour.
They’re now part of the Petalum series online gallery and, as with the other studies, are available in a range of fine-art prints sizes. If you’d like to know more about the prints and prices, please let me know via my email. Thanks!

After almost a year of work on the project, my new botanical series “Petalum” is now available and can be viewed online here.
It’s been a very gradual process of selecting and locating the flowers, photographing them in our studio using a variety of lighting techniques to bring out the wonderful detail in each bloom, and then finally creating the finished print. It’s certainly been a labour of love!
I’m intending to add further flowers and plants to the series and am also looking at the possibility of producing colour images in addition to the monochrome photographs.
As with my other images, fine-art prints of the Petalum series are available in a variety of sizes in both limited and open editions, and also as hand-crafted limited edition platinum prints, created by one of the UK’s leading specialists in alternative printing techniques.
If you’d like further details on the prints and prices, please don’t hesitate to drop me an email. Thanks!
In the meantime, enjoy the new series!
