Last Saturday (27th November), I attended the British Institute of Professional Photography “National Photographic Awards” at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, UK, and I’m very pleased to announce that, in addition to my gaining my Associateship (ABIPP), I received the following prestigious awards:

  • The “Peter Grugeon Award” For Best Associateship Submission Panel (20 B&W printed images)
  • Gold – Best Abstract/Illustrative Image – “Sentinel”
  • Gold – Best Landscape Image – “Old Railway Jetty II”
  • Gold – Best Science & Nature Image – “Pink Tulip, Study IV”

  • and finally, the Photographer of the Year award itself! (“Pink Tulip, Study IV”)

The BIPP Awards website, which features all the finalists’ work, is at: http://www.professionalphotographyawards.com/

It was quite an overwhelming night and it’s going to take a while for it to really sink in!

I am very honoured to receive these awards and my sincere thanks go to the BIPP judges for selecting these images and also to my Associateship mentor Russell Baston for providing his significant experience and professional guidance during the compilation of the images for my panel.

From the BIPP’s Press Release for the awards event:

Suffolk based Photographer, Paul Coghlin ABIPP has triumphed in the highly coveted British Institute of Professional Photography’s National Photographic Awards and has been awarded BIPP Photographer of the Year 2010.

Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire played host to the British Institute of Professional Photography’s National Photographic Awards Celebration on 27 November.

Paul journeyed through two stages of judging to receive a handful of awards including three highly acclaimed Gold awards in the categories of Science and Nature, Abstract / Illustrative and Landscape. With only eight Gold awards presented in the entire competition, this truly is an exceptional achievement.

Paul also received a Silver award and a Merit in the Science and Nature category as well as three Merits in the Abstract / Illustrative category and two Merits in the Landscape category.

Paul’s Gold award winning image from the Science and Nature category, Pink Tulip Study IV, then awarded him BIPP Photographer of the Year 2010.

The cream of British photographic talent attended, alongside professional photographers and colleagues from around the world and, appropriately, hopes were flying high to win awards in many categories of professional photography.

Newly appointed BIPP President, Andy Gotts FBIPP, enthused “The standards we set in the BIPP Awards are extremely high. These pictures by Paul are outstanding examples of the best in International photography. All photographers joining our organisation go through a challenging qualifying procedure and people buying photography should be reassured to see the BIPP symbol alongside a photographer’s name.”
