Over here in the UK, the March 2013 edition of Photography Monthly magazine has a five-page interview feature on “Petalum“, illustrated with many images from the from the thirty-print botanical series.  In addition to the flowers, the article also includes a number of my personal favourite images from recent years.

Available, as they say, from all good UK bookshops and newsagents.

“Petalum” exhibition, 1 February – 4 March 2013

My new botanical series – “Petalum” – is currently on show until 4th March 2013 at the new “Fine & Contemporary” Gallery in Clare, Suffolk, UK.

The thirty monochrome prints feature a wide range of flowers and plants: from the beautifully sculpted Aqua Rose, to the crêpe paper petals of a field poppy, to the more exotic-looking Black Parrot tulip.

The series’ style hints at a more classical period in photography, but with a contemporary feel: capturing the fine detail inherent in each flower, but also the subtleties of light, shade, texture and tone.

The exhibition details:

New colour editions in the “Petalum” series

October 25, 2012

I’ve just completed two new botanical studies as part of the “Petalum” series – in full glorious colour!  The field poppy and yellow iris flowers featured in black & white in the series have so much intrinsic texture and natural beauty that I felt that they should also been seen in colour.

They’re now part of the Petalum series online gallery and, as with the other studies, are available in a range of fine-art prints sizes.  If you’d like to know more about the prints and prices, please let me know via my email.  Thanks!

– Paul

March 22, 2012

David Chow, one of the leading alternative printing process specialists in the UK and based near Cambridge, has kindly included my “Lion’s Stare II” image in a very interesting blog article on densitometry and the editioning of platinum prints, and gives an insight into a few of the many steps that were needed to create the superb hand-crafted prints of this image, a special edition limited to just twelve 15″ x 15″ prints.

The full article can be read at David’s blog website “The Art of Platinum Printing” and further print examples can be found on the DC Editions website at www.dceditions.com

New work – coming soon…

March 15, 2012

It’s been a busy few months!  I’ve been working on many new images, including a new botanical series, plus have been going back to one of the oldest printing processes in photography – the platinum print – in a collaboration with one of the UK’s foremost practitioners of this technique.  More on this next time.

For the moment, here’s an example of the new work, with many more to follow soon…
